Ranked Core
The competitive staples: 3v3 ladder modes.
Knockout
3 vs 3
Best-of-three elimination rounds with no respawns. Win a round by wiping the enemy trio, and the shrinking poison clouds force cowards out of hiding. The purest test of aim and positioning in the game.
Top picks Piper, Belle, Rico
Gem Grab
3 vs 3
The original mode. Gems spawn from the center mine; hold ten as a team for a 15-second countdown to win, but every gem drops when its carrier falls. Control the middle, protect your carrier, break their countdown.
Top picks Gene, Tara, Poco
Brawl Ball
3 vs 3
Football with weapons. Score two goals to win, pass and dribble with attacks, and use Supers to blow open the enemy goal walls. Kicking the ball at the right moment matters more than raw damage.
Top picks Mortis, El Primo, Max
Hot Zone
3 vs 3
Stand in the marked zones to fill your team's percentage; first to 100 wins. One or two zones per map means constant teamfights on a fixed patch of ground. Area-control brawlers and tanks live here.
Top picks Emz, Rosa, Sandy
Bounty
3 vs 3
Every takedown earns stars; whoever holds more when the clock ends wins. Falling hands your stars over, so overextending is the real enemy. Long-range brawlers and patient trigger discipline dominate.
Top picks Piper, Brock, Bea
Basket Brawl
3 vs 3
Basketball, Brawl style: dunk up close for two points or shoot from range for three. Defense respawns fast and the hoop has no walls to hide behind. Chaotic, fast, and heavy on jump-capable brawlers.
Top picks El Primo, Stu, Mortis
Heist
3 vs 3
Two safes, one on each side; crack the enemy's before they crack yours. Pure damage race with defensive rotations, where wall-breaking Supers open shortcuts straight to the vault. High-DPS brawlers feast.
Top picks Colt, Bull, Colette
Volley Brawl
3 vs 3
Keep the ball off your side of the net. The volley arcs over the middle line and drops faster with every return, so late rallies get frantic. First to five points takes it.
Top picks Dynamike, Sprout, Bibi
Battle Royale
Last brawler standing: the Showdown family.
Trio Showdown
Teams of three
Showdown in squads of three. Power Cubes from boxes and fallen enemies stack your whole trio, and the poison closes everyone toward one last brawl. Last team standing wins it all.
Top picks Buster, Kit, Leon
Duo Showdown
Teams of two
Battle royale in pairs, with a twist: a fallen partner respawns as long as you stay alive. That second life makes duos far more aggressive than solo, and reviving under pressure is its own skill.
Top picks Gus, Leon, Kit
Solo Showdown
Sole survivor
Ten brawlers drop in, one walks out. Break boxes for Power Cubes, spin the poison gas to your advantage, and decide fight-or-hide moment to moment. The classic ego check of Brawl Stars.
Top picks Leon, Crow, Shade
Loaded Showdown
Sole survivor
Showdown where everyone spawns with their Super already charged and recharging fast. Fights open with ultimate trades instead of poke, which flips the usual pecking order of brawlers on its head.
Top picks Amber, Dynamike, Tara
Team Variants
Alt-sized line-ups: 5v5, 2v2, and four-team twists.
Wipeout 5v5
5 vs 5
Team deathmatch at double scale: first squad to the takedown target wins, and respawns keep the fight rolling. Ten brawlers on one map means Supers charge absurdly fast. Pure chaos, in a good way.
Top picks Colt, Rico, Emz
Knockout 5v5
5 vs 5
Elimination rounds with five-player rosters. One pick puts your team a body up, but wider maps mean flanks come from everywhere. Round wins take coordination that random teams rarely have, which is the fun.
Top picks Belle, Bo, Piper
Brawl Ball 5v5
5 vs 5
Brawl Ball on a stretched pitch with five a side. Passing lanes actually matter at this size, goalkeepers become a real role, and one coordinated push can carry the ball through the whole enemy half.
Top picks Frank, Bibi, Gale
Brawl Hockey 5v5
5 vs 5
The hockey puck slides and rebounds off walls, so bank shots and deflection goals are the meta. Five-player lines turn every face-off into a scrum. Score twice to win before the clock runs out.
Top picks Rico, Stu, Darryl
Gem Grab 5v5
5 vs 5
Gem Grab with a higher gem target and five brawlers a side. Two lanes of fighting around one mine, and gem carriers have four bodyguards instead of two. Team wipes swing the count violently.
Top picks Pam, Gene, Jessie
Love Bombing
2 vs 2
A 2v2 arena where a heart-shaped bomb ticks down in someone's hands; pass it off before it blows and be the pair left standing. Hot-potato pressure with real damage attached.
Top picks Poco, Byron, Edgar
Shadow Smash 5v5
5 vs 5
The Sirius-season smash mode at full ten-player scale: collect shadows, power up, and smash the enemy side's objective while the darkness spreads. Bigger teams, bigger pile-ups.
Top picks Sandy, Tara, Buster
Trio Gem Grab
3 vs 3 vs 3 vs 3
Four trios fight over one mine. Gems scatter between four teams, alliances form and break in real time, and the countdown can be stolen at the last second by the squad nobody was watching.
Top picks Tara, Penny, Gene
Trio Wipeout
3 vs 3 vs 3 vs 3
Four-team deathmatch where every takedown scores no matter who it hits. Third-partying is not a dirty tactic here, it is the entire strategy. First trio to the target closes the show.
Top picks Piper, Rico, Colt
Special Arena
Unique arenas and limited-time rulesets.
Brawl Hockey
3 vs 3
The 3v3 original of the hockey family: a fast-sliding puck, wall rebounds, and goals that count off deflections you never intended. Positioning beats chasing; let the puck come to you.
Top picks Rico, Stu, Mortis
Brawl Arena
3 vs 3
The MOBA experiment: push lanes alongside minion waves, break enemy towers, and end at their base. Matches run longer than anything else in the game and comebacks are real. Null's Brawl runs it in full.
Top picks Colette, Pearl, Meg
Wipeout
3 vs 3
Classic team deathmatch: rack up takedowns to the target score with instant respawns keeping the pressure constant. No objective to babysit, just the fight. The warm-up mode of choice.
Top picks Colt, Piper, Nita
Treasure Hunt
3 vs 3
A moving treasure spawns across the map; hold it to bank points while the whole lobby hunts the carrier. Part Gem Grab, part tag, with the crown always painted on someone's back.
Top picks Max, Mortis, Crow
Duels
1 vs 1
Bring three brawlers, fight one at a time, best roster wins. When your active brawler falls, the next steps in at full health. Draft order and counter-picking decide duels before they start.
Top picks Colette, Byron, Bull
Token Run
3 vs 3
Tokens rain across the arena; grab them, keep them, and drop them when you fall. First team to the token target wins, so the mode rewards greedy pickups and clean punishes in equal measure.
Top picks Max, Stu, Kit
Dodgebrawl
3 vs 3
Dodgeball rules: catch or evade the ball, then hurl it back to tag enemies out. No regular attacks, just throws, feints, and reads. The rare mode where reaction time is the entire kit.
Top picks Frank, Bull, Rosa
Soul Collector
3 vs 3
Fallen brawlers drop souls; collect them to score for your team. Kills alone are not enough, you have to walk over the proof, which makes every takedown a contested scramble.
Top picks Poco, Gene, Emz
Present Plunder
3 vs 3
The holiday classic: steal presents from the enemy base and haul them home while defending your own stash. Carriers move slower, so escorting the runner is where games are won.
Top picks Max, Darryl, Bull
Safe Blast
3 vs 3
A hybrid of Heist and Brawl Ball: carry the bomb to the enemy safe and detonate it. The carrier cannot attack, so the fight is about clearing a path, not landing the final hit yourself.
Top picks Rosa, Gale, Buster
Shadow Smash
3 vs 3
Collect shadow energy and smash the enemy objective while Sirius' darkness creeps across the map. The 3v3 original of the smash family, tuned for tight maps and fast resets.
Top picks Shade, Sandy, Lily
Paint Brawl
3 vs 3
Splatoon logic in Brawl Stars: attacks paint the ground, and the team covering more turf when time expires wins. Fighting matters less than coverage, which confuses first-timers wonderfully.
Top picks Emz, Barley, Amber
PvE Co-op
Team up against the game: bosses, waves, and survival.
Spirit Wars
3-player co-op
A three-player push against waves of possessed enemies, banking spirit energy between assaults. Positioning and revives carry further than raw damage. One of the deeper PvE brain-teasers.
Top picks Pam, Poco, 8-Bit
Subway Run
All vs all
An endless-runner event on subway tracks: dodge trains, grab pickups, and outlast the lobby as the pace ramps. Less shooting, more surviving, and weirdly addictive.
Top picks Max, Stu, Mortis
Duo Mega Boss
2-player co-op
You and one partner against a Mega Boss with attack patterns to learn and burn windows to exploit. Two revives, no third teammate to hide behind. Bring a tank-buster like Colette.
Top picks Colette, Pam, Byron
Hawkins Hunt
3 players vs the boss
The Stranger Things crossover hunt: three brawlers track a monstrous boss through a dark map before it hunts them back. Atmosphere-first PvE with real jump-scare pacing.
Top picks Bo, Byron, Piper
Upside Showdown
Sole survivor
Showdown flipped into the Upside Down: warped visuals, lurking creatures, and survival rules where the map itself is hostile. Half battle royale, half haunted house.
Top picks Leon, Shade, Sandy
Swarm
Sole survivor
Survive escalating waves of enemies as pickups and power-ups stack you into a one-brawler army. A survivors-style loop: each wave hits harder, and greed for one more upgrade is what kills you.
Top picks Colette, Amber, Nita
From the Vault
Rare and retired modes, several live on Null's Brawl now.
Combat Cooking
3-player co-op
The v68.279 cooking co-op: gather ingredients mid-fight and deliver dishes under fire while enemies raid the kitchen. Live now on Null's Brawl as part of the Ramen Rebellion update.
Top picks Jacky, Pam, Poco
Food Fight
3 vs 3
The v68.279 PvP food brawl: two trios trade shots over kitchen arenas where the scenery hits back. Live now on Null's Brawl with the rest of the Ramen Rebellion content.
Top picks Bibi, Barley, Bull
Mecha Guard
3-player co-op
Escort Meg's Mecha along its route while waves try to bring it down, payload-style. Built around v68.279's Mecha theme and live now on Null's Brawl.
Top picks Meg, Pam, 8-Bit
Large Showdown
Sole survivor
Showdown on an oversized map with a bigger lobby and longer poison timer. More room to rotate, more boxes to farm, and endgames that feel like a second match starting.
Top picks Leon, Bo, Bea
Loaded Duo Showdown
Teams of two
Duo Showdown where both partners drop in with Supers pre-charged. Opening fights are ultimate trades, and the pairs who sync their two Supers best usually collect the lobby.
Top picks Amber, Gus, Tara
Super Ball
3 vs 3
Brawl Ball's chaos variant: constant Super energy turns every possession into a highlight reel of wall breaks and aerial saves. Retired from official rotation, remembered fondly.
Top picks El Primo, Mortis, Gale
About Null's Brawl game modes
How many game modes does Null's Brawl have?
This atlas covers 45 game modes across 6 lineages, the same catalog as official Brawl Stars, and on Null's Brawl every mode is playable with all 106 brawlers unlocked and maxed from your first match. Vault modes like Combat Cooking, Food Fight, and Mecha Guard from the v68.279 update are live on Null's Brawl right now.
Which 5v5 modes exist?
The Team Variants lineage carries the big line-ups: Wipeout 5v5, Knockout 5v5, Brawl Ball 5v5, Brawl Hockey 5v5, and Gem Grab 5v5, plus 2v2 Love Bombing and the four-team Trio Gem Grab and Trio Wipeout formats.
What is the best mode for beginners?
Gem Grab teaches the core loop of Brawl Stars better than anything else: lane control, objective play, and when to retreat. Wipeout is the best pure-aim warm-up since there is no objective to manage. On Null's Brawl you can practice both with any brawler at max power immediately.
